Uday Jadav is an auto rickshaw driver from Sabramati District in Ahmedabad, but he and his auto are nowhere similar to any other auto rickshaws in India. Uday Bhai, as everyone calls him, is a man who lives by Gandhi’s principles and his auto is no different. Born and brought up in Ahmedabad, with a family of 10 – parents, 3 kids, wife, brother, sister and her son, Uday Bhai comes from a middle class family with a load of responsibilities.
Uday Bhai, an atypical Amdavadi auto driver, wears a Gandhi Topi. His is a concept auto with unique facilities. Uday Bhai pins badges with smileys on everyone who sit in his auto. His auto has such features which are not even available in a cab.

The Concept of ‘Ahmedabad no Rickshawalo’
Uday Bhai started ‘Ahmedabad no Rickshawalo’ on 21st October, 2010 on the auspicious day of Dusshera with the concept of gift economy in mind.

The concept of the auto was that the rider before you pays for your travel and you pay for the one coming after. The rate meter always reads zero because of this concept. After the ride, Uday Bhai gives a self-written card to the passengers in which they have to put as much money as they like or that seems worthy and then post it into one of the two boxes fixed at the back of the seats which has ‘Love’ and ‘Truth’ written on them.

An auto with features more than a cab
The auto has features that are not even available in a cab. Uday Bhai provides the passengers with food to eat, water to drink, magazine/books to read, music to hear, a fan for summers and the best of all – a dustbin, so that the streets remain clean. There are hardly any autos or cabs offering services like these, and this is what makes Uday Bhai stand out in the crowd.
